Trip Details
Located 20 km southeast shore of Lake Titicaca in La Paz Department in Bolivia, was an important pre-Columbian archaeological site of the Tiwanaku culture, where are the ruins of the ancient city, known as: Kalasasaya and other important buildings; Puma Punku, Gate of the Sun, Monolito Ponce, Keri Cala, Putuni, Laka Kollu, the Akapana Pyramid and Wila Pukara, which served as the residence of the priestly elite. Many buildings of Tiahuanak architecture have not survived due to the low resistance of the mud bricks (mass of clay and straw, molded bricks) to the harsh weather conditions in the highland region.
