Start Time: 05:30 hrs – Cloud Forest to Amazon Lowlands The day begins very early in the cloud forest of Manu, where we head out to observe the famous Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru’s national bird. This unique species performs an impressive courtship display and is one of the main highlights of any birdwatching tour in Manu National Park. After this unforgettable experience, we return to the lodge for breakfast.

Following breakfast, we continue our Cusco to Manu jungle journey, descending from the cloud forest into the Amazon lowlands. Along the way, we pass through the small jungle town of Pilcopata, an important gateway to the rainforest, before reaching Atalaya Port, located on the banks of the Madre de Dios River at approximately 700 meters above sea level.

From here, we begin a scenic boat expedition along the Madre de Dios River, entering deeper into the Amazon. During the navigation, you will have excellent opportunities for wildlife observation in the Peruvian rainforest, spotting birds such as herons, vultures, and cormorants, as well as enjoying the surrounding jungle landscapes.

After arriving at Erika Lodge (460 m.a.s.l.), located in the transition zone between cloud forest and lowland rainforest, we will enjoy lunch and settle into our accommodation. In the afternoon, we explore the surrounding jungle trails with our guide, learning about the incredible biodiversity of Manu, including tropical plants, insects, and wildlife.

You will also have the option to enjoy one of two included adventure activities. In Pilcopata, you can take part in a gentle rafting experience (Class I–II) on the Koñeq or Madre de Dios River, a fun way to experience the Amazon environment. Alternatively, at Erika Lodge, you may choose the canopy zip-line experience, gliding through the treetops and finishing with a rappel back to the jungle floor.

In the evening, we head out for a guided night walk in the Amazon rainforest, where you will discover nocturnal life such as insects, frogs, and other species that become active after dark.

Start Time: 05:00 hrs – Amazon River Expedition (365 m a.s.l.)

The day begins very early as we board our boat and navigate along the Alto Madre de Dios River, heading toward a nearby parrot clay lick (collpa). Here, you will witness a colorful gathering of species such as blue-headed parrots, white-eyed parakeets, and occasionally macaws, feeding on mineral-rich clay—an essential behavior in the Amazon ecosystem.

After this incredible wildlife experience in Manu, we return to Erika Lodge for breakfast. Following breakfast, we pack our belongings and continue our journey deeper into the Manu rainforest, traveling by boat along the river.

Our next stop is the natural hot springs of Aguas Calientes, surrounded by pristine jungle. Here, you will have time to relax in the warm waters and enjoy a refreshing break in the heart of the Amazon jungle in Peru. A cold lunch will be served in this unique natural setting.

In the afternoon, we continue navigating downstream toward the remote village of Boca Manu (365 m a.s.l.), located at the entrance of the Manu Reserved Zone.

During the river journey, you will have excellent opportunities for birdwatching in the Amazon, spotting species such as:

• Skimmers
• Herons
• Kingfishers
• Swallows and flycatchers

Arrival in Boca Manu in the afternoon, where we will settle in for the night surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the Manu Biosphere Reserve.

Start Time: 05:30 hrs – Entering the Manu Reserved Zone (395 m a.s.l.) At dawn, we begin our journey deeper into the Manu National Park, navigating along the Manu River toward one of the most protected and untouched areas of the Amazon. We make a brief stop at the Limonal Ranger Station, where we register in the official visitor log before entering the Manu Reserved Zone, a strictly protected area with limited access.

From here, we continue for approximately 4 hours by boat, leaving behind all signs of civilization and entering the true wilderness of the Manu Biosphere Reserve. This river journey is one of the best opportunities for wildlife observation in Peru, with frequent sightings along the riverbanks.

During the navigation, you may observe:

• Macaws and parrots flying overhead
• Herons and river birds
• Capybaras resting along the shores
• Caimans and river turtles
• Monkeys moving through the canopy
• And, with luck, jaguars or other felines along the beaches

By midday, we arrive at Lake Salvador, a pristine oxbow lake located in the heart of the reserve. Here, we set up our safari-style camp, where we will spend the next two nights immersed in the untouched Amazon rainforest.

In the afternoon, we explore the surrounding primary rainforest trails, searching for wildlife and learning about the incredible biodiversity of Manu. This area is considered one of the richest ecosystems in the world, offering a truly authentic Amazon jungle experience in Peru.

Start Time: 05:30 hrs – Wildlife Exploration in the Manu Reserved Zone (395 m a.s.l.)You will likely wake up to the powerful calls of howler monkeys, a true sound of the Amazon rainforest in Manu National Park. Before breakfast, we take an early morning jungle walk, when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is more active, increasing our chances of spotting animals searching for food.

After breakfast, we explore Lake Salvador by catamaran, one of the best locations for wildlife observation in Manu. Here, we search for the endangered giant river otter, often seen swimming, fishing, or playing in family groups. We also look for black caimans, hoatzins (prehistoric birds), and a wide variety of Amazon flora and fauna.

Later, we visit nearby Lake Otorongo, another pristine oxbow lake in the reserve. We climb a 15-meter observation tower, offering panoramic views over the primary rainforest canopy. From this vantage point, there is a high chance of spotting giant otters and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

In the evening, there is an optional night walk in the Amazon jungle, where we search for nocturnal species such as tree frogs, horned frogs, American bullfrogs, and colorful insects, experiencing a completely different side of the rainforest ecosystem.

Start Time: 05:30 hrs – Return from the Manu Reserved Zone (395 m a.s.l.) We begin the day early with a final morning walk around Lake Salvador, one of the most pristine areas of the Manu National Park. This is a perfect time to observe the forest coming to life, surrounded by towering ceiba trees, colorful butterflies, and active wildlife such as squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and woolly monkeys.

After breakfast, we pack up our camp and board our boat to begin the return journey along the Manu River, heading back toward Boca Manu.During the navigation, continue enjoying excellent wildlife observation opportunities in the Amazon, keeping an eye out for:

• Peccaries (wild hogs)
• Caimans and river turtles
• A wide variety of birds along the riverbanks
• Possible monkey sightings in the canopy

As we travel downstream, take in the last views of the untouched rainforest in the Manu Biosphere Reserve.We arrive in Boca Manu in the late afternoon or early evening, where you will settle into a comfortable lodge.

Start Time: 06:00 hrs – Amazon River Journey After breakfast, we begin our return journey navigating upstream along the Alto Madre de Dios River, heading back toward the Manu National Park buffer zone.

This scenic boat ride offers a final opportunity to enjoy the incredible Amazon landscapes and biodiversity, with chances to spot a wide variety of tropical birds, river wildlife, and lush rainforest scenery along the riverbanks.

As we travel against the current, take in the peaceful atmosphere of the jungle and reflect on the unforgettable experiences deep inside the Manu Biosphere Reserve.

By the late afternoon, we arrive at Erika Lodge, where you can relax and enjoy comfortable accommodation surrounded by nature. This will be your last night in the Amazon, offering a final chance to connect with the Peruvian rainforest.

Start Time: 05:00 hrs – Return to Cusco We begin the final day early in the morning with a short boat transfer along the Alto Madre de Dios River back to Atalaya Port. Along the way, enjoy your last views of the Amazon rainforest in Manu National Park.

Upon arrival at Atalaya, our private vehicle will be waiting to take you on a scenic drive back to Cusco. The journey passes once again through the cloud forest and Andean landscapes, offering final opportunities to enjoy the diverse ecosystems of this unforgettable route.

Arrival in Cusco is expected in the early evening, marking the end of your Manu National Park 8-day expedition.
