Day 1 La Paz – Base Camping Huayna Potosi
The Huayna Potosí climbing tour starts at 09:00 from La Paz, beginning one of the most popular high-altitude mountaineering adventures in Bolivia at Huayna Potosí.
We travel by vehicle for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach Base Camp (4,700 m), where this 6000m glacier climbing expedition in the Andes officially begins. Around 11:30, we enjoy lunch while preparing for the ascent to high altitude terrain.
After lunch, and a short break of about 1 hour, we start the hike to High Camp (5,200 m), an essential stage of this Bolivia glacier trekking and mountaineering tour. The ascent takes around 3 hours, offering incredible views of the Cordillera Real.
Upon arrival at High Camp, we settle into the mountain refuge, an important part of the Huayna Potosí acclimatization process for 6000m summit attempts. Dinner is served at 17:00, followed by rest at 18:00 in preparation for the early morning glacier summit push.
Day 2 Peak Huayna Potosi – La Paz
The second day of the Huayna Potosí 2 Days climbing expedition at Huayna Potosí begins at midnight with a light breakfast, preparing for one of the most iconic high-altitude glacier summit climbs in Bolivia.
At 01:00, we start the summit push from High Camp (5,200 m) as part of this challenging 6000m mountaineering expedition in the Andes. The route ascends across the glacier with an average slope of 35°–40°, taking approximately 4 to 7 hours depending on conditions and group pace.
Climbers are roped to certified mountain guides for safety during this technical glacier ascent in Bolivia. The first section is relatively moderate up to 5,500 m, followed by a 50-meter ice wall with a steep inclination of 55°–60°, requiring careful ice climbing techniques. After reaching around 5,800 m, the route continues along a narrow ridge leading directly to the summit.
At approximately 06:30, we reach the summit of Huayna Potosí (6,088 m), where climbers enjoy panoramic views of the Cordillera Real and the Andes mountain range, one of the highlights of any Bolivia glacier trekking and mountaineering tour.
After a short stay at the summit, we descend back to High Camp in about 2 hours, collect equipment, and continue down to Base Camp in approximately 1.5 hours. From there, we return to La Paz, arriving around 14:00, completing this unforgettable 2-day Huayna Potosí summit climb experience.
