Itinerary

Day 1: Calama – San Pedro de Atacama - Moon Valley.

Your Atacama Desert 5-day tour begins with arrival at Calama Airport and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, the gateway to one of the most spectacular desert destinations in Chile. This first day introduces you to the unique landscapes of the Atacama.

In the afternoon (around 16:00), we start the Valle de la Luna tour, one of the highlights of any San Pedro de Atacama excursion, located in the famous Valle de la Luna.

We begin with a visit to a panoramic viewpoint in the Cordillera de la Sal, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Salar de Atacama, the active Volcán Lascar, and the traditional Ayllus (oasis villages) surrounding San Pedro.

The journey continues to the dramatic Valle de la Muerte, where you will admire the iconic Volcán Licancabur (5,916 m), one of the most photographed volcanoes in the Andes.

Finally, we explore the highlights of Moon Valley, including the Salt Caverns, Tres Marías rock formations, and giant sand dunes, before enjoying a spectacular sunset over the Atacama Desert—one of the most unforgettable moments of this Chile desert adventure.

Day 2: Arcoiris Valley and Hierbas Buenas Petroglyphs & Ojo del Salar

Day 2 of your Atacama Desert 5-day tour explores unique geological formations and cultural heritage around San Pedro de Atacama. In the morning, we visit the spectacular Valle del Arcoiris (Rainbow Valley), one of the most colorful landscapes in the region. The hills display vibrant layers of green, red, white, and yellow minerals, making it a top highlight for Atacama Desert photography and geology tours.

We then continue to Petroglifos de Hierbas Buenas, an important archaeological site featuring hundreds of ancient carvings. These petroglyphs were created by early inhabitants and caravan traders who crossed the Andes, depicting animals such as llamas, monkeys, and symbolic figures, offering insight into pre-Columbian desert cultures in northern Chile.

In the afternoon (around 16:00), we begin the Salar de Atacama lagoons excursion, one of the most iconic San Pedro de Atacama tours. After a short drive, we reach Laguna Cejar, famous for its high salt concentration, allowing you to float effortlessly, similar to the Dead Sea—one of the most unique Atacama Desert experiences.

We continue to the Ojos del Salar, two freshwater lagoons located in the middle of the desert, followed by a visit to the stunning Laguna Tebinquiche. Here, you will enjoy a breathtaking Atacama sunset, where the sky reflects perfectly on the water, creating a surreal landscape.

Day 3: Salar de Tara.

We depart early at 07:00, traveling along the international route toward the Jama border, ascending into the Andes for a unique high-altitude desert adventure (4,000 m+). Our first stop is the beautiful Bofedal de Quepiaco, where you can observe a variety of Andean birdlife in this important wetland ecosystem.

Continuing the journey, we visit the impressive Salar de Pujsa, a stunning salt flat where thousands of flamingos gather, creating one of the most iconic wildlife experiences in the Atacama Desert.

We then explore the surreal rock formations known as Monjes de la Pacana, followed by the dramatic Catedrales de Tara, massive natural structures sculpted by wind and erosion—highlights of any Altiplano landscape photography tour.

Finally, we arrive at the breathtaking Salar de Tara, a protected wetland recognized by the Ramsar Convention for its ecological importance. This area is home to diverse wildlife such as flamingos, vicuñas, vizcachas, suris (lesser rhea), and Andean geese.

Enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by salt flats, volcanic landscapes, and towering rock formations, one of the most unforgettable moments of this Atacama Desert expedition in Chile. After exploring this remote region, we return to San Pedro de Atacama, completing an incredible high-altitude Altiplano experience.

Day 4: Geysers of the Tatio Tour and Machuca Hamlet.

Pick up from your hotel is at 04:00, followed by a 1.5-hour رحلة into the Andes. At sunrise, we explore the impressive El Tatio geysers geothermal field (4,300 m), where you will witness powerful steam columns, boiling pools, and active geysers, one of the best sunrise tours in the Atacama Desert. The extreme cold of the early morning creates dramatic steam plumes, making this a must-see Chile desert highlight.

After a guided walk through the geothermal area, we enjoy breakfast with panoramic views of the Andes. There is also the opportunity to relax in a natural hot spring pool, a unique experience in this high-altitude desert environment.

On the return journey, we stop to admire volcanic landscapes, Andean wildlife such as vicuñas, giant cacti, and native flora, perfect for photography during this Atacama scenic route. We then visit the traditional Machuca village, known for its small church and local handicraft market, offering a glimpse into Andean culture in northern Chile.

Day 5: Close Up to the Sairecabur Volcano (5971msnm.) & Puprints.

We ascend towards the impressive Volcán Sairecabur (5,971 m), reaching approximately 5,300 m via an old mining road. From the crater area, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes, including the stunning Laguna Verde and the iconic Volcán Licancabur, making this one of the most scenic high-altitude viewpoints in the Atacama Desert.

A short and easy high-altitude hike allows you to explore the crater surroundings while enjoying panoramic views of volcanic landscapes. Breakfast is served with an unforgettable backdrop of the Andes on the Chile–Bolivia border, a highlight of this Atacama adventure tour.

After descending from the volcano, we continue to the relaxing Termas de Puritama, one of the most popular hot springs in northern Chile.
