Day 1: Huaraz - Puente Santa Cruz - Laguna Wilcacocha - Huaraz.

Your Wilcacocha Lake Hike begins with a hotel pick-up in Huaraz at 8:00 AM. We take a short walk to the local market area, where we board public transportation to Puente Santa Cruz (Chihuipampa Bridge), located about 7 km from Huaraz.

From here, we start our scenic trekking adventure, following a zig-zag trail through traditional Andean landscapes, eucalyptus trees, and local farmland. The gradual ascent hike takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, making it an excellent acclimatization trek in Huaraz.

Upon reaching Wilcacocha Lake, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Cordillera Blanca, including famous peaks such as Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Hualcán, Vallunaraju, Ocshapalca, Ranrapalca, and Palcaraju. The lagoon is surrounded by native vegetation like cattails, ichu grass, and queñual trees, and is home to diverse Andean wildlife, including ducks and native bird species like hawks and eagles.

This natural viewpoint is one of the best panoramic spots near Huaraz, perfect for photography and relaxation. We will spend about 1 hour at the lake enjoying the scenery and taking photos.
