Itinerary
Day 1: Huaraz – Llamac – Rondoy (4,200 m)
05:00 AM: Early departure from Huaraz by private transport to the village of Llamac, the starting point of the Classic Huayhuash Circuit Trek. En route, enjoy scenic views of the Andes mountain range and remote highland landscapes.
From Llamac, we begin the trekking ascent into the Cordillera Huayhuash, following a gradual trail through valleys and rural terrain. This first section is an excellent introduction to high-altitude trekking in Peru and helps with acclimatization.
After approximately 4–5 hours of hiking, we arrive at the Rondoy campsite (4,200 m). Set up camp, rest, and enjoy the surrounding panoramic mountain views. Overnight in tents.
Day 2: Rondoy – Sambunya Pass (approx. 4,750 m) – Jahuacocha (4,070 m)
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we start the ascent towards Sambunya Pass (approx. 4,750 m), one of the highlights of the Huayhuash Circuit Trek. The trail becomes steeper as we gain altitude, offering incredible panoramic views of the Cordillera Huayhuash and surrounding snow-capped peaks.
At the top of the pass, enjoy breathtaking views and take time to rest and capture photos of the dramatic Andean mountain scenery.
We then begin a long descent towards Jahuacocha Lake (4,070 m), walking through remote valleys and high-altitude landscapes. The descent takes approximately 3–4 hours, with varied terrain and stunning scenery along the way.
Upon arrival at the Jahuacocha campsite, we set up camp and relax. This area offers one of the most beautiful sunset views in the Huayhuash range. Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Jahuacocha – Yaucha Pass – Huayhuash Valley / Ancoshcancha
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we begin the ascent towards Yaucha Pass, one of the scenic high points of the Huayhuash Circuit Trek. The trail climbs steadily through remote Andean landscapes, offering increasingly impressive panoramic views of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
At the summit of Yaucha Pass, enjoy breathtaking views of surrounding peaks, valleys, and glaciers. This is an excellent spot for photography and a short rest.
We then descend into the Huayhuash Valley, continuing towards the Ancoshcancha campsite. The trail passes through quiet high-altitude terrain with diverse ecosystems and untouched nature.
The total hiking time for the day is approximately 6–7 hours. Upon arrival at camp, we set up tents and rest, surrounded by the peaceful environment of the Andes. Overnight in tents.
Day 4: Ancoshcancha – Huayhuash Pass – Viconga
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we begin the ascent towards Huayhuash Pass, one of the key high passes of the Classic Huayhuash Circuit Trek. The trail climbs steadily through rugged terrain, offering impressive panoramic views of the Cordillera Huayhuash and surrounding snow-capped peaks.
At the top of the pass, take time to rest and enjoy the breathtaking Andean mountain scenery, with views of remote valleys and glacial landscapes.
We then descend towards the Viconga campsite, located in a scenic area known for its natural setting. Here, you may have the option to relax in the nearby hot springs (if available/optional), a perfect way to recover after a challenging trekking day.
Total hiking time is approximately 6–7 hours. Overnight in tents at Viconga.
Day 5: Viconga – Cuyoc Pass – Huanacpatay / Cutatambo
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we begin one of the most challenging sections of the Huayhuash Circuit Trek, ascending towards Cuyoc Pass (approx. 5,000 m). The trail climbs steadily through high-altitude terrain, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Upon reaching the summit of Cuyoc Pass, enjoy breathtaking views of surrounding peaks, glaciers, and remote valleys—one of the highlights of the entire trek.
We then begin a long descent towards Huanacpatay / Cutatambo campsite, passing through dramatic Andean landscapes and changing ecosystems. This section includes varied terrain and impressive scenery throughout the day.
Total hiking time is approximately 7–8 hours. Upon arrival at camp, we set up tents and rest. Overnight in tents.
Day 6: Huanacpatay – Huayllapa – Huatiaq / Gashpapampa
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we begin a long descent towards the village of Huayllapa, walking through scenic Andean valleys and rural landscapes. This section offers a different perspective of the Huayhuash Circuit Trek, with changing vegetation and lower altitude terrain.
Upon arrival in Huayllapa, we take a short break in the village. From here, we continue the ascent hike towards Huatiaq / Gashpapampa campsite, gaining altitude again as we re-enter high mountain terrain.
The trail becomes steeper, but rewards us with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Total hiking time is approximately 6–7 hours. Upon arrival at camp, we set up tents and rest. Overnight in tents.
Day 7: Huatiaq – San Antonio Pass – Huayllapa / Jahuacocha area
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we begin the ascent to San Antonio Pass, one of the most scenic viewpoints of the Huayhuash Circuit Trek. The trail climbs steadily through high-altitude terrain, offering increasingly impressive panoramic views of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
At the top of San Antonio Pass, enjoy breathtaking views of glaciers, turquoise lakes, and surrounding peaks—one of the most rewarding viewpoints of the entire trek.
We then descend towards the Huayllapa / Jahuacocha area, walking through beautiful Andean landscapes and remote valleys. The descent is gradual, with varied terrain and stunning scenery along the way.
Total hiking time is approximately 6–7 hours. Upon arrival at camp, we set up tents and rest, enjoying the final night in the mountains. Overnight in tents.
Day 8: Jahuacocha – Llamac – Return to Huaraz
06:00 AM: After breakfast, we begin the final descent from Jahuacocha Lake towards the village of Llamac, following a scenic trail through the Cordillera Huayhuash with beautiful last views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The hike takes approximately 4–5 hours, descending gradually through Andean landscapes and rural paths. This section marks the final part of the Huayhuash Circuit Trek, offering a relaxed and rewarding finish.
Upon arrival in Llamac, we meet our private transport and begin the return journey to Huaraz, arriving in the afternoon.
