Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco - Tinki - Pacchanta - Pachaspata
We depart from Cusco at 6:00 AM, traveling through the scenic Andes Mountains to the village of Tinke (3,800 m), gateway to the Ausangate region. Upon arrival, we enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast.
From Tinke, we continue by private transport to Pacchanta, a small highland community surrounded by snow-capped peaks and hot springs. Here, we meet our muleteer and horses, who will carry the main equipment to Pachaspata Base Camp (4,800 m).
The trekking adventure begins with a gradual hike to the beautiful Laguna Verde, where we enjoy a box lunch with stunning views of glaciers and mountain landscapes. After lunch, we continue hiking for about 2 more hours to reach our base camp, located at the foot of Jampa Mountain.
In the afternoon, we prepare our climbing gear for the next day’s summit attempt and rest in this remote high-altitude campsite in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Pacchanta – Pachaspata - Cusco
We start very early at 4:00 AM with a quick breakfast, then begin our summit climb of Jampa Mountain using headlamps. After about 2 hours of hiking, we reach the glacier, where we equip ourselves with crampons, harnesses, ropes, and ice axes for a true mountaineering experience in the Andes.
From here, we continue the glacier ascent for around 3.5 hours toward the Jampa summit (~5,500 m). Along the way, we cross sections of ice and a short rocky ridge (light climbing) before reaching the top. At the summit, we enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, take photos, and have a light snack.
After celebrating our achievement, we descend along the same route back to base camp (3 hours). There, we enjoy a hot lunch and rest before continuing the hike down to Pacchanta (about 4 hours).
In the afternoon, we take private transport to Tinke, then continue by bus back to Cusco, arriving around 8:30 PM, completing this unforgettable 2-day high-altitude climbing adventure in the Peruvian Andes.
