Trekking to Paron lake (4200 m), 25km east of Caraz, is surrounded by spectacular snow-covered peaks, of which Pirámide de Garcilaso (5885 m), at the end of the lake, looks particularly brilliant. The challenging rock-climbing wall of Torre de Parón, known as the Sphinx , is also found here. The road to the lake goes through a canyon with 1000m-high granite walls – this drive is as spectacular as the better-known Llanganuco trip.

Parón Lake is located 32 km from Caraz, capital of the province of Huaylas and 100 km north of Huaraz, capital of the Ancash region.

Parón is the largest lake in the Cordillera Blanca. It is of glacial origin, formed from the melting of the Huandoy and Chacraraju snow-capped mountains to the south, Artesonraju and Aguja to the north, and Piramide to the east.

Laguna Parón is the largest and most important natural freshwater reservoir in the Cordillera Blanca, giving rise to the river of the same name, which is later called the Llullán River, which flows into the Santa River.Laguna Parón is located at an altitude of 4185 meters above sea level, 76 meters deep, with a surface area of 1,480.48 m2 and 55,000,000 m3 of content.
