Overview

It is a humble town and yet proud to offer the world a priceless treasure, the famous salt of Maras. Visiting the salt mines is impressive: there are hundreds of white “pools” on which you can walk. And in the surrounding area, all imaginable products made with this precious salt, even chocolates!

Maras is also home to the Moray Archaeological Complex, where circular terraces or “muyus” are sunk into the earth creating different microclimates, in what seems to have been an Inca center for agricultural experimentation.

Approx. excursion Maras Moray, Our tour begins with the pick up from the hotel in the city of Cusco, to go to the town of MARAS: Located in the province of Urubamba at 3300 meters above sea level. Nowadays this picturesque town keeps attractions of the pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican period, highlighting in the town the colonial streets and gates with shields of the nobles and chiefs of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. MORAY: Unique archaeological group in its kind in the region. It is about gigantic natural holes that were used by the Incas who built terraces or agricultural terraces with their respective irrigation channels, it is a prototype of a greenhouse, the biggest hole has a depth of 150 meters. In this place is where incredible advances in agriculture were obtained. At the indicated time return to the city of Cusco.

Moray.
a further breathtaking 20 kms drive with the beautiful snowcapped Chicon and Veronica mountains in the Cordillera Vilcanota as a backdrop we continue through to Moray. In Moray we visit “ the Inca agricultural greenhouse or laboratory”, consisting of four platforms amphitheater style or. Has a depth of 150 meters, the overlapping concentric circular stone rings widen as they rise. It was an experimental place to study the adaptation of plants to new ecosystems.

Maras / Salineras ( Salt mines )
located 7 miles from Moray at altitude of 3, 380 m is a small village, as a model of a miniature city. Famous for its salt mines, made up of about 3000 small wells with an area average size of about 5 ms ². These were already exploited since Inca times as a means of economic exchange and securities. Very interesting to see how the salt is recovered from these mines and the lives of those who work here.
