Among its realization of Machupicchu stands out the construction of its walls, terraces and gigantic ramps that give the impression of being sculpted in the escarpments of the rocks of the place. Recommendations:

Book your entrance ticket to Machu Picchu
For most visitors, the city of Cusco is just a passing place on their way to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. For this reason, many adventurers only stay a couple of days or nights in this city. But, that couple of nights should be memorable and for this reason we recommend making your reservation well in advance.

Book and buy your flight tickets to Cusco
To travel to the city of Cusco by plane, remember that there are only direct flights from the following countries: Santiago de Chile, Bogota (Colombia) and La Paz (Bolivia). So, with the exception of the destinations mentioned above: book your flight to Cusco (or Lima – Cusco) months in advance. 92% of flights arrive to Cusco from Lima. Due to the high demand and the small number of airlines, it is advisable to book months in advance.

Book your lodging
In the city of Cusco you will find a wide variety of accommodations. From lodgings, hostels, hostels and hotels ranging from 2 to 5 stars. But, as in all the most visited places in the world, most of the time they do not have availability. Therefore, we advise you to book in advance the hotel or hostel that best suits your budget and requirements.

Beware of altitude sickness or “soroche”.
The city of Cusco is located in the south of Peru, between the inter-Andean valleys of the Great Andes Mountains. Its altitude is above 3399 meters above sea level. For this reason, the first and main problem you will have to deal with will be altitude sickness or soroche.

What is altitude sickness? Acute mountain sickness (AMS), also called soroche, apunamiento or páramo sickness, is the lack of adaptation of the organism to the hypoxia (lack of oxygen) of altitude.

When is the best time to travel to Cusco?
In spite of what was said in the previous paragraph. Personally for our team, the best months to visit Cusco are the months of April and May. Since in these months the weather is pleasant with a radiant blue sky, adorned with white clouds, and with a green nature in full bloom.

Take your personal documents with you
As in all the countries of the world, the most important thing is to carry with you your passport that has a minimum validity of 6 months at the moment of your entrance to Peru. However, if you are from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay or Venezuela you will only need your National Identity Card.

Carry cash or your credit card.
When it comes to money, it is always advisable to bring dollars and make the change to soles, in the exchange houses that abound around the Plaza de Armas in Cusco.

Always look out for your safety
Cusco, in general, is a quiet place with friendly and hard-working people. However, as in any other place, there are always opportunists and people with bad intentions.

For your safety in Cusco:
Do not stray too far from the Historic Center of the city, as it is the only place that is monitored with security cameras and police patrolling the streets.
Take tourist services only with duly authorized travel agencies.

Take with you appropriate clothing according to the season.

What to bring to Cusco? Cusco is characterized by its rainy season and dry season or drought. Also, for its frigid nights and sunny days. For this reason, the ideal clothing to travel to Cusco will be:

Use urban or tourist transportation.
The best way to move within the city of Cusco is in private cabs or tourist transport services. The prices of cabs vary from 6 soles to more, depending on where you want to go.
